Our Team

UK Black Pride promotes unity and co-operation among all Black people of African, Asian, Caribbean, Middle Eastern and Latin American descent, as well as their friends and families, who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgender.

Award-winning UK Black Pride – Europe’s largest not-for-profit event for African, Arab, Asian, and Caribbean-heritage LGBT+ people – is thrilled to announce an expanded team of volunteer leaders. The new recruits bolster UK Black Pride’s credentials as the most diverse and inclusive community-led Pride event in Britain.

Announcing the new appointments, Phyll Opoku-Gyimah, Executive Director of UK Black Pride, said: “Our community has always been full of incredible talent yearning to make its contribution to advance an agenda of equality and inclusion across Black LGBT+ communities at home and abroad.

“After a rigorous recruitment process, I’m thrilled to welcome our new and extended team of volunteers who are connected to every section of the Black LGBT+ community that UK Black Pride strives to serve.

“Where UK Black Pride’s team of eight volunteer organisers helped to bring over 8,000 visitors to UK Black Pride in 2017, our expectation is that with 24 volunteers across a broader portfolio – representing the rise and reach of UK Black Pride’s contribution to Black LGBT+ communities in Britain – our new and returning team members will deliver the next phase of UK Black Pride’s strategy to see Black LGBT+ people included and celebrated as well as our communities’ diverse needs heard and met.”
