Sponsorship Manager Role

UK Black Pride is a safe space to celebrate diverse sexualities, gender identities, cultures, gender expressions and backgrounds and we foster, represent and celebrate Black LGBTQI+ and QTIPOC culture through education, the arts, cultural events and advocacy. Importantly, UK Black Pride promotes unity and cooperation among LGBTQI+ people of Diaspora communities in the UK, as well as their friends and families. Our team members are committed to producing an annual celebration of “Black Pride”, as well as organising a variety of activities throughout the year in and around the UK which also promote and advocate for the spiritual, emotional, and intellectual health and well-being of all related communities. To further enhance the team and enable the organisation to grow financially we are looking to recruit a Sponsorship Manager.


The Role

To ensure that UK Black Pride continues to be relevant to Black LGBTQI+ people and that we continue to meet the needs of our communities.  We want to make sure that the voices of our communities drive everything we do. The Sponsorship Manager will engage and co-ordinate sponsorship solicitation and fundraising efforts, most typically with corporate and large organisations.  You will report directly to the Executive Director. This is an exciting and essential role within the organisation.

This role will report directly to the Executive Director

Location: UKBP is based in London, however works across the UK. Meetings take place in London

This is an unpaid voluntary position, however reasonable out of pocket expenses incurred in the delivery of the role will be reimbursed

This role has no direct line manager responsibilities

Role Responsibilities 

  • Building on excellent relationships with existing sponsors.

  • Researching and networking potential new sponsors to secure successful new multi-year sponsorships and partnerships.

  • To secure event sponsorship for our annual Pride event 

  • Preparation of presentations and business cases for major new sponsorship enquiries with the Executive Director.

  • Negotiating and contracting terms of agreement for new sponsorships in consultation with the Executive Director and various other internal stakeholders as relevant (Partnerships Manager or other key roles within the Core Team).

  • Client management of top tier sponsors and some of our second and third tier sponsors, including recommendations for the delivery of sponsorship benefits in association with our annual Pride event.

  • Work in conjunction with the Executive Director and the Head of Brand & Marketing to ensure our sponsor-related marketing is considered, timely and implemented in line with sponsor contracts.

  • Co-ordination of quarterly sponsorship report on behalf of the Executive Director to present to the Board of Trustees.

  • Maintain a suitable database of all sponsorship activity such as progress timelines and contract values 

  • Contribute to and support other core team work as appropriate. 


Knowledge / Skills / Experience / Qualities required for the role.  We are looking for someone who has:

  • Demonstrable knowledge of empathy with and passion for Black LGBTQI+ communities. 

  • A demonstrable record of success in new business development/sales roles. 

  • Demonstrable experience of maximising opportunities from researching prospects to generating meetings, and securing income. 

  • Experience of working in cross-departmental teams or structures to deliver projects. 

  • Highly self-motivated. 

  • Excellent influencing and negotiation skills. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Excellent organisational skills. 

  • Attention to detail and the ability to ensure all outputs are of the highest quality. 

  • Excellent interpersonal communications skills, including tact and assertiveness, and the ability to communicate at all levels in a complex environment. 

  • This role also requires good team working with other members of UKBP including the Board of Trustees (when required) Core and wider Volunteer team members.

  • Must be flexible in their approach, meetings are likely to take place in the evenings and at weekends.


Time Expectations:

We expect this role to take 4-5 hours per month.  This time commitment is likely to increase as events approach.  You will be expected to attend Team meetings which will be held in London on a 4-6 weekly basis in the evening (6pm) at this time meetings will remain virtual (via zoom) however as covid restrictions lift these may resume in person and as we draw closer to our main Black Pride event.
