Welcome to Voices!

Welcome to Voices!

Voices is where we share our thoughts, opinions, feelings, and knowledge. If you’ve got something to say, we want to create space for it.

Whilst we are not prescriptive on what you’re able to create and share on our platform, we ask that it is relevant for our audiences. UK Black Pride exists to celebrate and focus on the lives of African, Asian, Middle Eastern, Latin American and Caribbean-heritage LGBTQIA+ people. Your piece can take any format, from written word to audio-visual – we don’t care how you say it, we just want to know what you have to say.

When you’re thinking about your piece, the most fundamental aspect will be the audience. Who are you aiming the article at? Our general audience will appreciate someone who can write thoughtfully, opening the subject up for them and explaining the fundamentals in a compelling, accessible way. UK Black Pride’s communities comprise of various groups, ages, cultures, and experiences. If you’d like to write for a specific community, that’s fine too, just make sure you let us know.

Contribute to our ‘Open Diary’ Series

Whether you’re looking to share your thoughts on a specific issue or just share a recent experience, our ‘Open Diary’ is the perfect space for first-time writers. You’ll be given editorial support for your writing, so you do not have to worry about spelling/grammar/punctuation. The ideal length for this kind of contribution is 500-750 words. When it comes to the final publishing, you can even do this anonymously.

Contribute a ‘Call to Action’

If you’re looking to make an impact and have a specific point to make, consider writing for our ‘Call to Action’ series. Pieces that are contributed under this series are designed to appeal for change: they call for community action.

Key points to consider:

Tell us who you are and why you’re the right voice for this topic.

If you are using a particular statistic in your piece, please reference your source.

We aim to reply to pitches we want to commission within 1 week, but sometimes there may be a delay as we are volunteer-led. Feel free to send a follow-up e-mail if we haven’t got back to you within a few days. Unfortunately, we don’t have the capacity to reply to everything or offer individual feedback.
