This #LGBTHistoryMonth, UK Black Pride is supporting the work of @openingdoorslondon.

Each LGBTQ History Month, we join the world in amplifying the enduring contributions LGBTQ people have made to help change the world. We are living in a moment made possible because of the work done by those who came before us, and they deserve their rightful place in our collective understanding of not only how we got to where we are, but what is possible for the future. But as we celebrate the names of those we know and those we’ve lost, we might sometimes lose sight of those whose names we don’t know – and who are still here.

Older LGBTQ people are an important part of our communities. Among them is a history we have yet to fully reckon with and people who deserve to be visited, cared for and revered. Yet older LGBTQ people are too often overlooked and left behind. Opening Doors London is working hard to change that. As the world continues to recalibrate to and reconnect in a digital-first world, research led by Opening Doors London reveals that 37% of older LGBTQ people feel more lonely than usual and 27% say they hardly ever or never have someone to talk to.

This LGBTQ History Month, we’d like to throw our weight behind Opening Doors London. UK Black Pride is making a donation to the charity and we are hoping you will join us in ensuring older LGBTQ people have the care, attention and services they so rightfully deserve. As we continue to amplify the voices and stories of those who’ve come before us, let’s all of us commit to holding the hands of those still here with us.

To Opening Doors London, thank you for the important work you’re doing at such a tremendously difficult for our communities. And to our elders, we love you and we see you.

In solidarity,

Lady Phyll and the UK Black Pride team
